Air guns in the USA

Airgun World magazine - latest issue

I really want you to give this month's selection of articles your full attention, and if possible, I'd like you to read them twice. I ask this because I believe we've put together an issue that can push our knowledge and understanding of this glorious sport of ours to new levels.

We've got Airgun World technical editor, Phill Price, concluding his findings on pellet impact channels, and what a fascinating piece of work Phill has presented. Like his previous investigations into energy transfer, Phill's impact channel experiments have unearthed more real world facts and with them even more to debate and research in future issues. As I say, it's definitely worth reading more than once.

The same goes for Jim Tyler's features on buying second-hand and the practicality of using open sights. Jim's subject knowledge is vast and his passion for what he does is endless. If you're looking for straight, no-nonsense advice that you can really put to use, Jim has it, and plenty of it, in this month's Airgun World.

Then we have multi-championship winning, Tim Finley, here to help field target shooters, hunter field target shooters and hunters avoid those basic errors that can mean so much. Tim is one shooter who has been putting his reputation on the firing line for over 20 years, so when he speaks it's wise to listen...and listen again.

Phill Price is back with his impressions of Gen 1 and Gen 2 nightvision hardware, and again you'll get more honest reporting and genuine feedback from our ever-inquisitive technical editor. Phill, a confessed doubter as far as NV gear is concerned, sets off on a nocturnal voyage of discovery, and you can learn right alongside him. I know I did.

Still on the subject of Phill Price and his discoveries, this month I gave him the brandnew Remington NPSS to test, and knowing what an important development this nitropiston powered rifle represents, Phill asked if he could extend his test so he could fully explore the shooting potential of the new rifle. So, this month you'll find out what the NPSS is, and next month it's all about what it does. This two-part test could be a theme worth adopting on a more regular basis, so let me know what you think.

I'll be testing the unique FX Independence, with its equally unique Smooth-Twist barrel and pump-up format. It's truly groundbreaking stuff from FX, andit dovetails perfectly with the rest of this month's content. Then, as the perfect counterpoint to so much new technology, George Stevens steps back over 20 years to re-visit the living legend that is the Weihrauch HW35. I dropped in on George while he was testing this rifle and I too became caught up in the pleasure of shooting a piece of airgun history. I'll leave it to George to explain the full importance of this rifle, but it's no exaggeration to say that the HW35 helped to shape our shooting future.

To top it off we've got an array of excellent articles and features from our usual cast of incurable enthusiasts, and I say yet again, you should read this month's Airgun World at least a couple of times to take it all in. I certainly had to!
